Introduction to being a Guardian Angel

Why become a Guardian Angel?

It is an opportunity to give something to the Circle Dance network. If Circle Dance has touched you, opened you to new possibilities in life, this is a way of saying ‘Thank you’. Whilst there is business to discuss, meetings are usually great fun and a way of maintaining contact with other dancers that you might not meet otherwise. We share the work, the dance and food — working and dancing together adds a new dimension to Circle Dance, allowing us to put into practice the idea that dancing can bring harmony to a group.

What is a Guardian Angel?

Guardian Angel is the name used to describe a director of the Circle Dance Friends Company Limited. It serves to remind us that the task is one of guardianship of the network.

Why are we needed?

To offer support to the network and to those undertaking ventures on its behalf.

What does the company do?

Promotes Circle Dance, for example it publishes The Grapevine, organises the Easter Gathering and offers an insurance scheme for teachers.

What would be expected of me?

To become a company director and to attend Guardian Angel meetings.

How much time would it take?

There are four meetings a year, one of which is over a weekend, usually in July, and the other at the Easter Gathering. In between meetings there is a certain amount of preparation and follow-up work to be done which we try to keep to a minimum.

How long would I have to serve?

Usually a maximum of four years, with a minimum of two years.

What will it cost me?

Travel expenses can be paid, although some Guardian Angels do not claim them.

Who can I talk to about it?

A current Guardian Angel.

How do I become one?

Come to a meeting, the dates are published in Grapevine, they are open to anyone in the network.

Then apply to the meeting through the focaliser.
